These steps were hard to understand. There were multiple "build outside the builds" that stuck together, but it was confusing how they connected.

This is a photo of a mistake I made. The directions were rotated at a strange angle, so I put a motor below the spot is was supposed to be.
These steps were when things got confusing. Some of the parts were missing. I had to take inventory of all the parts needed, even though the directions said I would only need the core and expansion kit. I purchased the missing parts from a website called "bricklink." See this page for a list of needed parts.

These steps weren't as hard. I had to add an extra layer to put the brick on. My EV3 uses a rechargeable battery, so the brick was bigger than in the design.
Here is a picture of the change I made. There are 2 grey bars below the brick, when there should only be one.
